RESPONSE: PAKISTAN: Rubina's life still in danger

General Pervez Musharraf
Chief Executive of Pakistan
Aiwan-e-Sadar
Islamabad
Pakistan

Dear General Musharraf:

Greetings from Sydney, Australia!
I am writing at this time to ask you to commute unconditionally the
death sentence of Ms Rubina Ansari.
As I understand the case, this woman is poor and illiterate and was
unable to defend herself adequately in court.
She is a young mother with a child who is dependent upon her.
She appears to have suffered torture while in custody, something which
has not yet been investigated by the responsible authorities.
Moreover, a number of important Human Rights organizations in Pakistan
and around the world have expressed their serious concern about this
case.
I know how much you are concerned about the future of your country. I
hope you will intervene to stop the execution of Ms Rubina Ansari in
order to prove to the international community that Pakistan tempers
justice with mercy.
With warmest best wishes,
Yours most sincerely,

Dr Peter Sales
Senior Lecturer in History
University of Wollongong
AUSTRALIA.
